View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] The second half chairpersons of the Jeonnam Provincial Council and the Gwangju Metropolitan Council held their first meeting on the 8th at the Jeonnam Provincial Council and discussed regional issues and ways to promote mutual development between Gwangju and Jeonnam.
The meeting was attended by Kim Han-jong, Chairperson of the Jeonnam Provincial Council, First and Second Vice Chairpersons Gu Bok-gyu and Kim Seong-il, Jeon Gyeong-seon, Chairperson of the Council Steering Committee, Park Moon-ok, Chairperson of the Planning and Administration Committee, and from the Gwangju Metropolitan Council, Chairperson Kim Yong-jip, First and Second Vice Chairpersons Jo Seok-ho and Jeong Sun-ae, Jeong Mu-chang, Chairperson of the Council Steering Committee, and Lee Hong-il, Chairperson of the Administration and Autonomy Committee.
Both councils agreed to maintain continuous communication regarding regional issues such as the city-province administrative integration, which has emerged as the biggest issue in the local community, the relocation of the Gwangju military airport and civilian airport, and the second phase of public institution relocations to local areas. They also agreed to actively gather opinions from city and provincial residents and cooperate broadly.
Kim Yong-jip, Chairperson of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council, said, “It is very meaningful that the two councils, as representative bodies of the citizens of Gwangju and Jeonnam, have opened a channel for communication to discuss regional issues,” adding, “From now on, let us communicate frequently without being bound by formalities and closely discuss ways to promote joint regional development and improve the quality of life for city and provincial residents.”

Kim Han-jong, Chairperson of the Jeonnam Provincial Council, responded, “I hope today’s meeting will be a cornerstone for further mutual growth between Jeonnam and Gwangju, which share one root community,” and said, “With the mindset of starting anew from now on, I hope we can establish and implement effective alternatives together at the council level.”
