Hwasun-gun Selected for the '2021 Eco-Friendly Agriculture Infrastructure Project' Competition
[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Young-gyun] Hwasun County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gu Chung-gon) announced on the 8th that Hwasun Agricultural Cooperative (Chairman Jo Joon-sung) was selected in the ‘2021 Eco-friendly Agriculture Infrastructure Project Contest’ hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, which was conducted over six months from April to last month.
The county is promoting the eco-friendly agriculture infrastructure contest with producer organizations such as the agricultural cooperative, aiming to conserve the agricultural environment, improve efficiency, scale, and reduce production costs of eco-friendly agricultural products, and expand the supply and consumption base of eco-friendly agricultural products and processed goods.
Previously, the county was selected for the eco-friendly agriculture infrastructure contest project for three consecutive years starting last year.
As a result of being selected for the contest project, Hwasun Agricultural Cooperative will invest a total project cost of 1.02 billion KRW in Yasa-ri, Iseo-myeon to establish an eco-friendly rice drying and storage facility (DSC).
Hwasun Agricultural Cooperative challenged the contest to organize and scale eco-friendly rice farming households by maximizing the regional conditions that require eco-friendly agriculture in areas such as Iseo-myeon and Baek-a-myeon, which have many farmlands within the water source protection zone.
This contest project involved 218 farming households (cultivation area of 125 hectares) from three myeon including Iseo-myeon.
Hwasun Agricultural Cooperative is already promoting a farming work agency project in Iseo-myeon and guarantees an appropriate purchase price to differentiate itself from other agricultural cooperatives when purchasing eco-friendly rice directly.
To provide safe food to consumers, they focused on expanding specialized eco-friendly rice drying and storage facilities that can solve the problem of eco-friendly rice being mixed and sold with general agricultural products, and thus entered the contest with determination.
So far, one site in Dogok-myeon, two sites in Chunyang-myeon, and one site in Iyang-myeon have been selected for the eco-friendly agriculture infrastructure project contest and completed the projects, and this year the project is being promoted in Cheongpung-myeon.
