Due to the complete cancellation of October festivals such as the Gaecheon Arts Festival caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the city inevitably held a scaled-down 20th Jinju Citizen Award ceremony.
This event was simply held in the city hall situation room with the awardees' families, acquaintances, and citizen representatives attending in accordance with social distancing guidelines.
The Jinju Citizen Award recipient is Kim Young-gi (age 76), who served as a professor in the Department of Public Administration at Gyeongsang National University and is currently an emeritus professor in the same department, the executive representative of the Jinju Forum, and the director of the Gyeongnam Autonomy Research Institute.
Awardee Kim Young-gi stated, “Based on the spirit and culture of public service inherited from our predecessors, I will strive to be of some help in understanding Jinju’s spirit and values, our roots, and in developing Jinju.”
