KOSPI and KOSDAQ Start Higher Amid Sharp Rise in US Stock Market

[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] Following the rise in the U.S. stock market on the 7th (local time) after President Donald Trump's mention of 'targeted support,' the domestic stock market is also showing an upward trend.
At 9:12 a.m. on the 8th, the KOSPI stood at 2402.18, up 0.64% (15.24 points) from the previous session. The index opened the day at 2408.49, up 0.90% (21.55 points) from the previous session. By investor type, foreigners and institutions net purchased stocks worth 29.5 billion KRW and 14.1 billion KRW respectively, while individuals alone sold stocks worth 43.2 billion KRW.
Looking at the top market capitalization stocks, all are on the rise except Naver (-0.16%). Samsung Electronics (0.33%), SK Hynix (0.48%), LG Chem (0.59%), Hyundai Motor (0.27%), and Celltrion (2.50%) are also gaining.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ index closed at 872.60, up 0.34% (2.94 points) from the previous session. The index opened at 875.12, up 0.63% (5.46 points) from the previous session. By investor type, individuals bought stocks worth 44.7 billion KRW, while foreigners and institutions sold stocks worth 40.4 billion KRW and 2.5 billion KRW respectively.
Among the top market capitalization stocks in the KOSDAQ market, Celltrion Healthcare traded at 91,800 KRW, up 1.66% from the previous session. Seegene (0.96%), Celltrion Pharm (1.41%), Genexine (1.48%), and CJ ENM (0.56%) are also showing gains.
