Japan Meteorological Agency Expects Impact Starting from the 9th
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Typhoon No. 14 'CHANHOM,' currently moving northward over the waters near Okinawa, Japan, is expected to track along the eastern side of the Japanese archipelago.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, as of 3 p.m. on the 7th, the typhoon has developed into a "strong typhoon" with maximum instantaneous wind speeds reaching 50 meters per second. It is moving northward at a speed of 20 km/h approximately 380 km east of Minamidaito Island, Okinawa.
The typhoon is expected to strengthen the next day and change direction northeastward near Okinawa. From the 9th, it is forecasted to pass sequentially through western Japan and the Tohoku region.
The Japan Meteorological Agency urged thorough preparedness, stating, "Heavy rain damage is expected throughout Japan due to the long eastward-extended rain front and moist air inflow from the south of the typhoon."
