If ASF Occurs Within 5 Years or Virus Detected in Water/Soil, Area Designated as Priority Management Zone
Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Implements Revised Enforcement Rules for Livestock Infectious Disease Prevention Act
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] Within five years, areas where African Swine Fever (ASF) has occurred, or specific vectors such as wild boars or virus-detected water and soil, will be designated by the government as priority quarantine management zones to strengthen quarantine measures.
On the 7th, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced that it has revised the "Enforcement Rules of the Livestock Infectious Disease Prevention Act" to establish the "Criteria for Designating Priority Quarantine Management Zones for African Swine Fever" and the "Enhanced Quarantine Facility Standards" that pig farms must meet within these zones.
The related criteria identify high-risk areas for ASF occurrence as ▲areas where ASF has occurred at least once in the past five years ▲areas where the ASF virus has been detected in specific livestock infectious disease vectors such as wild boars or in environmental sources like water and soil.
Here, the concept of "area" is not limited to a specific administrative district but may include cities or counties where ASF has occurred in pigs, adjacent cities or counties, or epidemiologically related cities or counties where the ASF virus has been detected in wild boars or other specific vectors or environmental sources such as water and soil.
Eight enhanced quarantine facility standards will be introduced for pig farms within the priority quarantine management zones. For livestock vehicle disinfection, ▲external fences ▲internal fences ▲loading and unloading platforms must be installed. For disinfection of people and goods, ▲quarantine rooms ▲anterooms ▲goods intake facilities must be established. Additionally, to prevent vectors such as wild boars, birds, and insects, ▲anti-intrusion and insect screens ▲livestock-related waste management facilities must be installed.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs expects that by designating high-risk ASF areas as priority quarantine management zones and applying enhanced quarantine facilities, the occurrence of ASF in pig farms can be effectively blocked.
