The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 7th that it has additionally selected 151 excellent long-standing businesses as ‘Baeknyeon Gage,’ bringing the total number of Centennial Stores to 636.
The newly selected businesses include regional representative bakeries and restaurants such as Daejeon’s ‘Seongsimdang’ and Seoul’s ‘Seobukmyeonok.’ In addition, various lifestyle-related businesses such as used bookstore specialty shops, yarn stores, and antique furniture shops were discovered. Through the national recommendation system first introduced in February, 94 new businesses were also discovered, bringing the total number of nationally recommended ‘Baeknyeon Gage’ to 143.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups plans to pilot a ‘Baeknyeon Gage Zone’ in the Happy Department Store to support Centennial Stores’ entry into large offline stores and will gradually expand it based on the operation results. The Baeknyeon Gage Zone will be created on the 5th floor restaurant area of the Happy Department Store by utilizing vacant spaces, covering an area of about 100 pyeong. The three previously selected Centennial Stores ▲Singane Jeongeup Gukbap (Jeongeup, Jeonbuk) ▲Heungbu Bossam (Gwanak, Seoul) ▲Daewonok (Paldal, Suwon) are scheduled to open by the end of November this year.
Baeknyeon Gage is selected by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups by evaluating stores with over 30 years of business history based on the owner’s willingness to innovate, product/service differentiation, and business sustainability to discover successful models for small business owners. Support includes capacity building such as expert consulting, holding plaque ceremonies, and promotion through major domestic O2O platforms and leading media outlets.
