More than 2,800 Nationwide Murder and Robbery Convicts Missing
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] It has been revealed that the whereabouts of over 2,800 ex-convicts who committed murder, robbery, and theft are unknown.
According to data submitted by the National Police Agency to Kim Young-bae, a member of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea, as of the end of August this year, there are 17,313 high-risk individuals nationwide. Among them, 2,839 high-risk individuals have unconfirmed whereabouts.
Seoul has the highest number with 429, followed by southern Gyeonggi with 385, Busan with 247, Incheon with 218, North Gyeongsang with 215, South Gyeongsang with 177, and northern Gyeonggi with 175.
Among the high-risk individuals managed by 255 police stations nationwide whose whereabouts are unknown, Uijeongbu Police Station in Gyeonggi has the highest number with 65, followed by Gumi Police Station in North Gyeongsang with 54, Michuhol Police Station in Incheon with 49, Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul with 46, Jin Police Station in Busan with 44, and Seobu Police Station in Incheon with 41.

Representative Kim said, "Not even knowing the whereabouts of high-risk individuals threatens the daily lives of citizens," and added, "The police should establish a constant linkage system with the prosecution and correctional institutions and actively manage the whereabouts of high-risk individuals to prevent habitual crimes."
