Doosan Corporation Launches Full-Scale Entry into Unmanned Forklift Market with Focus on 'Safety, Efficiency, and Precision'
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Doosan Corporation is intensifying its efforts to capture the Automated Guided Forklift (AGF) market in line with the spread of automation and unmanned operations in industrial sites such as smart factories.
Doosan Corporation announced on the 6th that it is currently discussing the application of AGFs at more than 20 domestic industrial sites. Last year, Doosan launched the AGF (model name: BR20SP AGV) and supplied it to paper manufacturers and global consumer goods companies.
According to the company, Doosan's AGFs are characterized by safe and efficient operations and precise driving. Five sensors attached to the vehicle quickly detect workers and obstacles to prevent collisions. Additionally, the AGF's routes can be set and managed through a remote control system and control monitoring system. When charging is needed, the vehicle automatically moves to the charging point and can instantly switch between unmanned and manned modes with the push of a button.
The AGF is equipped with both SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) technology, which drives along a predetermined route by inputting map values of the worksite, and laser navigation that detects obstacles using lasers. This enables precise driving within an error margin of 10 mm.
Although the market for automated driving-capable AGFs is still in its infancy, they are gaining attention as a key component of smart factories, and demand is expected to continue increasing. According to industry sources, the global AGF market is projected to grow at an average annual rate of 8%, expanding to approximately $2.7 billion (about 3 trillion KRW) by 2023.
