One in Four Female Police Officers Faces Sexual Harassment... Nearly Half Experience Secondary Harm
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] One in four female police officers has experienced sexual harassment, and nearly half of them suffered secondary damage.
On the 6th, according to the '2019 Sexual Harassment Grievance Survey Results' submitted by the National Police Agency to Lee Eun-joo, a member of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee from the Justice Party, 6.3% of all police officers responded that they had experienced sexual harassment within the past three years. Among all female police officers, 26.4% reported having been sexually harassed.
The survey was the first sexual harassment grievance survey conducted on police officers in November last year, with 8,674 participants (7,311 men and 1,363 women), representing 6.4% of the entire police force.
Among the sexual harassment victims, 38.3% reported experiencing secondary damage, with 44% of female victims complaining of secondary harm. Regarding the relationship with the perpetrator, 70.1% were superiors, followed by outsiders (5.9%) and subordinates (1.7%).
While 78.5% responded that they 'just endured' the sexual harassment, only 5.3% consulted or reported to their superiors.
