The Bridge with the Highest Number of Traffic Accidents Nationwide is Busan's 'Gwangandaegyo'

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The bridge with the highest number of traffic accidents nationwide was found to be the Gwangandaegyo Bridge, one of Busan's representative landmarks.
According to data submitted by the Road Traffic Authority to Han Byung-do, a member of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea, 94 traffic accidents occurred on Gwangandaegyo Bridge over the past five years from 2015 to last year, resulting in 2 deaths and 178 injuries. During this period, a total of 400 accidents occurred on bridges in Busan, meaning one out of every four accidents happened on Gwangandaegyo Bridge.
Among the top 10 bridges with the highest number of traffic accidents, except for Gwangandaegyo Bridge, the remaining nine are all located in Seoul. The ranking includes Yanghwadaegyo Bridge with 64 accidents (160 injuries), Banpodaegyo Bridge with 63 accidents (1 death, 150 injuries), Hannamdaegyo Bridge with 60 accidents (110 injuries), and Seongsudaegyo Bridge with 58 accidents (119 injuries). In Seoul, a total of 1,636 bridge accidents occurred, resulting in 20 deaths and 2,899 injuries, the highest number of accidents among metropolitan local governments nationwide.

Assemblyman Han pointed out, "Bridges have long straight distances, making drivers prone to speeding," and added, "Related agencies should thoroughly analyze the causes of traffic accidents on bridges and prepare mid- to long-term measures to reduce the occurrence of traffic accidents."
