The OTEC Carrier Championship (total prize money 800 million KRW), part of the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour, opens on the 8th at Sejong Field Golf Club (par 72, 6,676 yards) in Sejong Special Self-Governing City. This newly established tournament features 108 players competing in stroke play over four days. Ko Jin-young has been staying in Korea this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and has been honing her skills on the KLPGA Tour instead of the U.S. LPGA Tour.
She finished 45th at the Lotte Cantata Ladies Open in June, 6th at the Korean Women's Open, and 20th at the Jeju Samdasoo Masters in July. Since debuting on the KLPGA Tour in 2014, she has accumulated 10 career wins, with her most recent victory at the major Hite Jinro Championship last October. It is encouraging that she has thoroughly prepared by focusing on physical training as well as swing correction. As this is her first competitive stage in two months, fine-tuning her shot feel is urgent.
Ko Jin-young plans to participate in the KB Financial Star Championship on the 15th and the Hana Financial Group Championship on November 5 before heading to the United States. An Song-yi (30, KB Financial Group) is aiming for 'back-to-back wins' in two consecutive tournaments. She secured a one-stroke victory at the Phantom Classic held at South Links Golf Club in Yeongam, Jeollanam-do, on the 27th of last month. This is her second career win since achieving success on her 237th attempt at the ADT Caps Championship last November. She is determined to "enjoy it without pressure."
