Trump Goes Out While Infected with COVID-19... Controversy Over Ignoring Quarantine in Political Show
Donald Trump, President of the United States, waved his hand while passing in front of supporters in a car outside Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, where he was hospitalized due to COVID-19 on the 4th (local time).
Controversy is spreading over U.S. President Donald Trump's surprise outing while hospitalized with the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
With less than a month left until the presidential election, the strategy was to highlight the image of a 'strong warrior' who fought and won against illness, but critics say it revealed 'ignorance' by ignoring even the basic principles of quarantine.
According to The Washington Post (WP), on the 4th (local time), President Trump told his aides that he was bored being in the hospital and tired of watching the coverage of his hospitalization.
WP reported that the 'showmanship' of President Trump, a former host of the 'Trump Reality TV Show,' was so impromptu that even the White House press pool was not notified by the officials who gathered them. The aides told WP that this surprise outing was arranged to show 'strength.'
WP stated, "President Trump, medical staff, and White House aides have been emphasizing that his condition is improving and have tried to highlight that he is not significantly affected by the virus that has killed more than 209,000 Americans."
The emphasis by White House aides that President Trump continued to work while hospitalized and portraying him as a 'victorious warrior' is part of this effort.
However, among his aides, there are concerns that this could be a 'political decision.' Moreover, worries are rising that his condition might worsen, requiring him to be hospitalized again at Walter Reed Medical Center.
WP conveyed concerns from some experts that if President Trump returns to the White House amid ongoing COVID-19 cases there and a lack of accurate internal information sharing, it would signal that he continues to prioritize politics over health.
Especially amid ongoing confusion about his health due to limited and conflicting information from the White House, WP pointed out that this surprise outing, which violated public health guidelines by leaving the 'quarantine location,' added to the confusion.
WP also reported that medical experts reviewing the president's treatment program believe any attempt to allow President Trump to return to the White House on the 5th would raise questions about political influence over the medical process.
CNN also criticized in an article titled "President Trump is hospitalized with COVID-19 but still does not take the pandemic seriously," stating, "President Trump's fight against COVID-19 has yet to convince him to prioritize a responsible approach to the pandemic that has taken 209,000 lives over his political desires."
The surprise outing 'stunt,' which exposed Secret Service (SS) agents riding in the armored sports utility vehicle (SUV) to danger, was another act of ignoring government recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
CNN criticized, "This is a blatant recent example showing that politics is replacing the president's duty as a steward of national well-being with the presidential election only 29 days away."
CNN also pointed out that the 'contradictory messages' and 'half-truths' only highlight incompetence in properly running the country and a lack of understanding of the importance of providing accurate information about the president's health and continuity of power to the American people and potential foreign adversaries.
Meanwhile, the chairman of Keidanren (Japan Business Federation), an economic organization with major Japanese corporations as members, said on the 5th that President Trump's COVID-19 infection was "self-inflicted."
