5G Subscriber Count Surpasses 8 Million
[Asia Economy Reporter Joselgina] The number of 5G mobile communication subscribers in South Korea surpassed 8 million as of the end of August this year. The increase compared to the previous month was in the 800,000 range, marking the largest growth in the past year.
According to the wireless communication service statistics for August released by the Ministry of Science and ICT on the 5th, the number of 5G subscribers was counted at 8,658,222. This is an increase of 801,017 subscribers, or 10.2%, compared to the previous month. It is the highest figure since the end of August last year.
By telecom company, SK Telecom had the largest number of 5G subscribers at 3,981,004, followed by KT with 2,631,750, and LG Uplus with 2,042,558. The industry attributes the significant increase in 5G subscribers to factors such as the launch effect of the Galaxy Note20.
The total number of mobile subscribers exceeded 70 million, recording 70,006,170, an increase of 201,119 compared to the previous month.

The number of MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) subscribers reached 7,353,733, increasing by 35,903 from the previous month. This marks a shift from a 14-month decline since the end of June last year to an upward trend. The number of 5G MVNO subscribers was counted at 2,910.
