45% of Areas with 'Fire Truck Access Difficulty' Located in Seoul
Assemblyman Kim Young-bae, 824 Locations Nationwide and 37.5km Road Sections Applicable
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] It has been revealed that there are 824 locations nationwide, spanning 37 km, where fire trucks have difficulty accessing in the event of a fire.
According to data submitted by the National Fire Agency to Kim Young-bae, a member of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee (Democratic Party), there are 824 places across the country where fire truck access is impossible or difficult, totaling 37.5802 km in road length.
Of these, nearly half (45%), or 368 locations, are situated in the Seoul area. The total road length is 14 km. In particular, 303 of these locations, covering 12 km, are residential areas where fire truck dispatch is difficult, accounting for the majority.
Busan also has 128 locations, representing 16% of the nationwide fire truck access difficulty areas, followed by Incheon (10%, 84 locations) and Daegu (8%, 69 locations).
On the other hand, Sejong City has only one location with access difficulties, and Gyeonggi Province was confirmed to have no such areas at all.

Assemblyman Kim pointed out, "More than half of the areas nationwide where fire truck access is impossible or difficult are residential areas," adding, "Considering that fires in residential areas lead to casualties, fire authorities and local governments must work together to devise measures to resolve this issue."
