Jeonnam Police Maintain 'Peaceful Chuseok Holiday' Through Special Security Activities
Ensuring Stable Traffic Management and Maintaining Public Safety Without Major Incidents or Accidents
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] During this Chuseok holiday, reports of major crimes decreased by 15.1%, and traffic accidents dropped by 29.3%, indicating a peaceful Chuseok holiday.
The Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency announced that during the 14-day period from the 21st of last month to the 4th, they implemented a 'Comprehensive Security Plan for the Chuseok Holiday,' resulting in decreases in both major crimes and traffic accidents.
To achieve this, the Jeonnam police promoted crime prevention tips targeting convenience stores, financial facilities, and conducted crime prevention diagnostics to address vulnerabilities. They also cooperated with volunteer crime prevention groups to jointly patrol crime-prone areas.
Additionally, they deployed maximum available police forces and focused on preventing and responding swiftly to crimes such as theft from vacant houses and robbery. As a result, no robberies occurred, and thefts decreased by 5.7% compared to last year.
Furthermore, based on big data analysis predicting an increase in domestic violence during Chuseok, they monitored households with concerns of recurrence or abuse before the holiday. This led to a 14.3% decrease in domestic violence reports and a 63.6% decrease in child abuse reports.
Through communication-focused traffic management and intensive crackdowns on dangerous and selfish driving, traffic accidents decreased, maintaining stable vehicle flow.
Due to the spread of COVID-19, traffic volume in Jeonnam decreased compared to last year. Traffic police were concentrated in habitual congestion areas, and one unmarked patrol car and one helicopter were utilized for three-dimensional traffic management to ensure smooth traffic flow and alleviate residents' inconvenience.
During this Chuseok holiday period, the average daily traffic volume in Jeonnam was 630,000 vehicles, a 7.4% decrease from 680,000 vehicles last year. Traffic accidents totaled 87 cases, down 29.3% (-39 cases) from 123 cases last year. Casualties also decreased by 50% in deaths (1 person) and 46.2% in injuries (142 people) compared to the previous year.
