Seoul City and SH Corporation Hold Forum on Guaranteeing Children's Housing Rights
[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 4th that it will hold an online forum to guarantee children's housing rights on the 5th in commemoration of World Habitat Day, together with the Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH Corporation).
The forum will be held on the 5th at Seoul Housing Lab. However, due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), offline participation applications will not be accepted, and the event will be broadcast live on YouTube.
At this forum, Professor Sehee Lim of Seoul Cyber University will present on the topic "Policy Directions to Guarantee Children's Housing Rights - Focusing on Children within Families."
Additionally, Jiyeon Kim, Senior Research Fellow at the Korea Youth Policy Institute, will present "Housing Experiences of Youth Shelter Adolescents and Measures to Guarantee Housing Rights." Ji-eun Song, a lawyer at Ddingdong, a crisis support center for LGBTQ youth, will also present on "The Necessity of Guaranteeing Housing Rights and Establishing Systems for Street Children and Adolescents."
World Habitat Day is a commemorative day designated by the United Nations (UN) in 1986, observed annually on the first Monday of October. It was established to raise awareness about people living in poor housing conditions and to promote the fact that housing is a fundamental right.
Se-yong Kim, President of SH Corporation, said, "In addition to households with child housing poverty, various housing policies should be considered for youth living in facilities due to family breakdown and youth living on the streets," adding, "Through this forum, discussions about children's housing situations need to be more actively addressed in policy areas."
