View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] The Gyeongsangbuk-do Dokdo Foundation (Chairman Governor Lee Cheol-woo) will commemorate October as Dokdo Month and the 120th anniversary of the promulgation of the Korean Empire Imperial Decree No. 41 with various programs and events.
Imperial Decree No. 41 of the Korean Empire, announced on October 25, 1900 (the 37th year of King Gojong's reign), elevated Ulleungdo to an independent Ulleung County, established a local administrative agency overseeing Ulleungdo, Jukdo, and Dokdo, and upgraded the administrative head of Ulleungdo from Dogam to County Governor of Uldo County.
According to Gyeongbuk Province on the 4th, on the 13th, a 'Digital Dokdo Archive Agreement Ceremony' will be held at the National Library of Korea, hosted by Gyeongbuk Province, the National Library of Korea, and Ulleung County. This agreement will mark the beginning of a full-scale effort to collect and digitize Dokdo-related materials such as old maps scattered across the country.
Academic events sponsored by Gyeongbuk Province will also be held consecutively from the 21st to the 23rd. On the 21st, at POSTECH International Hall, the 'Ulleungdo and Dokdo Marine Protected Species Management Activation Seminar' will be hosted by the Dokdo Foundation. On the 22nd, at Yeungnam University Law Library, the 'Ulleungdo and Dokdo Marine Protected Species Management Activation Seminar' will be organized by the Yeungnam University Dokdo Research Institute.
Additionally, on the 23rd, the 'International Conference on Marine Ecology and Island Biology' will be held at Kyungpook National University, and at the end of October, a 'Roundtable on Dokdo Guardian An Yong-bok' will be held jointly with Daegu Haany University and others.
Gyeongbuk Province is also preparing various events such as a Dokdo photo exhibition and Dokdo product biz fair to raise public interest in Dokdo. From the 19th to the 30th, the Gyeongbuk Provincial Library exhibition hall will host the 'Dokdo Photo Exhibition by Senior Local Photographer Kim Jae-do,' and on the 24th, a 'Dokdo Civil Organizations Workshop' will be held with representatives of civil organizations in attendance.
On November 7th, the '2nd Dokdo Product Biz Fair,' showcasing and selling Dokdo-related products such as educational materials, stationery, and clothing both online and offline, is scheduled to take place at Sanghwa-dongsan in Suseong Lake, Daegu.

Kim Seong-hak, Director of the Marine and Fisheries Bureau of Gyeongbuk Province, stated, "This year marks the historic 120th anniversary of the promulgation of the Korean Empire Imperial Decree, and we will take the lead in building related data projects." He added, "Considering the COVID-19 situation, we will focus on essential events and academic conferences to strengthen the foundation for Dokdo's territorial sovereignty."
