Feeding Infants Urine and Feces and Injecting Perilla Oil... Bizarre Acts of a Cult Leader
[Asia Economy Reporter Nah Ana] A cult leader who committed bizarre acts such as injecting perilla oil into the buttocks claiming it rejuvenates people and feeding infants their urine and feces, calling it a miraculous potion, and embezzling followers' money under various investment pretexts, has been sentenced to a heavy prison term.
The court announced on the 3rd that it upheld the original sentence of 4 years and 6 months imprisonment in the final appeal trial of A (in his 50s), a fake cult leader charged with fraud, and violations of the Medical Service Act and the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act.
A called himself the "Savior" and created a cult by patching together doctrines from Christianity, Buddhism, and Islam. In 2011, he impersonated a cult leader and produced and sold a fake panacea called "Haemimgamrosu," for which he was sentenced to 5 years in prison for fraud. Even after being paroled 4 years later, he continued to commit bizarre crimes.
Although not a medical professional, A is accused of violating the Medical Service Act by inserting long needles around the buttocks of cult members and injecting perilla oil with syringes, as well as feeding infants their urine and feces.
Additionally, A is charged with fraud for embezzling a total of about 350 million won from members under the pretext of investment in antiques appraisal fees and a self-proclaimed "infinite generator" that supposedly surpasses nuclear power plants and solar power plants.
Furthermore, he was also charged with violating the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act for manufacturing medicines without approval from the Minister of Food and Drug Safety, such as producing "Geumgangdan" made from ginger and garlic, falsely claiming it to be a treatment for ALS and dementia.
The first trial court recognized all charges against A, including fraud and various violations, as guilty and sentenced him to 1 year and 6 months for fraud and 3 years for violations of the Medical Service Act and Pharmaceutical Affairs Act. The court stated, "Despite having a prior conviction for similar crimes, he repeated offenses during the probation period," and added, "The method of deception was very bad and the amount of damage was considerable," sentencing him to 4 years and 6 months imprisonment.
