Trump "Undergoing COVID-19 Test and Awaiting Results"… Aftermath of Close Aide's Infection
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he and First Lady Melania have been tested for COVID-19 and are awaiting the results. This move is interpreted as a response to news that Hope Hicks, a close aide to the president, tested positive for COVID-19.
According to foreign media including the Associated Press, President Trump stated in an interview with Fox News on the 1st (local time), "I have been tested for COVID-19 and am waiting for the results." This action is seen as a precaution following the confirmation that Hicks, who participated alongside President Trump in the presidential debate and campaign events, was infected with the virus.
Bloomberg reported that Hicks traveled on Air Force One with President Trump during the U.S. presidential debate held on the 29th of last month and the campaign event in Minnesota the following day. Hicks is also known to have been in contact with other close aides to President Trump, including White House Senior Advisor Stephen Miller and Communications Director Jason Miller. Members of President Trump's team sparked controversy earlier by appearing at the presidential debate without wearing masks.
