"Unceasing Falsified Address Registrations, 65% Occur in Seoul, the Highest Rate"

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] It has been revealed that 65% of the 3,055 cases of false address registration among elementary, middle, and high school students over the past five years occurred in Seoul alone.
According to data submitted by the Ministry of Education to Kim Byung-wook, a member of the National Assembly's Education Committee from the People Power Party, the number of detected false address registrations was ▲809 cases in 2016 ▲754 cases in 2017 ▲683 cases in 2018 ▲642 cases in 2019 ▲167 cases up to July 2020.
By region, Seoul had the highest number of detected cases over the past five years with a total of 1,995 cases, followed by Gyeonggi Province with 486 cases, Daegu with 192 cases, and Incheon with 105 cases.
By school level, the detected cases were ▲1,345 cases (44%) in elementary schools ▲1,152 cases (38%) in middle schools ▲558 cases (18%) in high schools.
According to data identified by Kim's office, 33 high-ranking officials who underwent confirmation hearings during the Moon Jae-in administration were suspected of false address registration, among whom 15 committed false address registration due to their children's school issues.

Kim emphasized, "False address registration for children's education continues every year, increasing disputes over educational fairness and equity," adding, "The government must establish drastic measures to prevent false address registration in education."
