Application Deadlines Closed for Early Admission at 15 Universities... Slight Drop in Competition Rate Compared to Last Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The competition rates for early admission applications at 15 major universities have generally slightly decreased compared to last year.
Jongno Academy Sky Education announced that the average competition rate for early admission applications from June 23 to 28 for 15 universities including Korea University, Sogang University, Seoul National University, Sungkyunkwan University, Yonsei University, Ewha Womans University, and Hanyang University was 16.37 to 1, down from 17.83 to 1 last year.
Among the universities that closed applications on the 28th, Sogang University’s overall early admission competition rate was 26.08 to 1, down from 30.84 to 1 last year. By admission type, the essay screening had the highest rate at 76.80 to 1 (95.33 to 1 last year), the first round of comprehensive student record screening was 12.72 to 1 (14.22 to 1 last year), and the second round was 13.30 to 1 (13.50 to 1 last year). For the essay screening in the Computer Engineering major, 1,965 applicants applied for 18 spots, resulting in a competition rate of 109.17 to 1.
In the case of Sungkyunkwan University, the overall early admission competition rate was 21.26 to 1 (25.57 to 1 last year). By admission type, the essay excellence screening was the highest at 55.27 to 1 (71.95 to 1 last year), the comprehensive student record screening by department group was 13.15 to 1 (14.65 to 1 last year), and the comprehensive student record screening by major was 9.87 to 1 (10.44 to 1 last year). Ewha Womans University had an overall early admission competition rate of 11.23 to 1, similar to last year’s 11.33 to 1. Hanyang University recorded an overall early admission competition rate of 21.77 to 1 (26.95 to 1 last year).
By admission type, the essay screening was the highest at 66.14 to 1 (86.55 to 1 last year), the general comprehensive student record screening was 13.12 to 1 (15.26 to 1 last year), and the student record screening by curriculum was 6.43 to 1 (7.07 to 1 last year). For the essay screening in the medical science major, 2,657 applicants applied for 9 spots, resulting in a competition rate of 295.22 to 1.

For the 10 national universities of education nationwide, the average early admission competition rate was 4.91 to 1, down from 5.79 to 1 last year. Except for Jeonju National University of Education, the competition rates at nine universities including Seoul National University of Education and Gyeongin National University of Education decreased compared to last year. The average early admission competition rate for nine regional flagship national universities such as Kyungpook National University, Pusan National University, and Chonnam National University also fell to 7.94 to 1 from 8.89 to 1 last year.
