Gwangju Mayor Lee Yong-seop Visits 31st Division to Encourage Flood Recovery Support
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] On the 25th, Lee Yong-seop, Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, visited the 31st Infantry Division to express his gratitude to the soldiers who dedicated themselves to flood damage recovery and COVID-19 quarantine support.
The Army's 31st Infantry Division deployed 2,620 military personnel to carry out emergency recovery activities at 176 damaged facilities, including households, farmland, and roads, that were flooded due to heavy rain last month.
Since the first confirmed COVID-19 case in the region in February, the division has supported quarantine activities by deploying 2,604 personnel along with 28 decontamination vehicles and 975 disinfection machines, leading volunteer and dedication efforts for the local community whenever Gwangju faced difficulties.
During his visit to the division, Mayor Lee Yong-seop presented plaques of appreciation and consolation gifts to the 31st Infantry Division and the 503rd Brigade in gratitude for their flood recovery support, and awarded commendations to soldiers who contributed to the flood recovery efforts.

Mayor Lee said, “On behalf of the citizens of Gwangju, I extend my thanks and respect to the division soldiers who practiced service and sharing in the community during times of crisis,” adding, “The soldiers’ spirit of sharing and coexistence in Gwangju will serve as a great example for the local community.”
