Assemblyman Sin Jeonghun: "Hwasun Vaccine Safety Technology Support Center to Be Established"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The establishment of the Hwasun Vaccine Safety Technology Support Center to increase the domestic vaccine self-sufficiency rate is being actively promoted.
According to National Assembly member Shin Jeong-hoon (Democratic Party of Korea, Naju-Hwasun), it was announced on the 25th that the Vaccine Safety Technology Support Center will be established in the Hwasun Vaccine Industry Special Zone.
A total of 28.3 billion KRW (21.3 billion KRW national funds, 3.2 billion KRW provincial funds, 3.8 billion KRW county funds) will be invested by 2022.
In next year’s government budget proposal, the operating support budget for the Vaccine Safety Technology Support Center will be expanded from the existing 2 billion KRW by an additional 3.3 billion KRW to 5.8 billion KRW to rapidly and actively promote vaccine localization and productization.
The national funds reflected in next year’s government budget proposal include 1.62 billion KRW for professional personnel operation and project operation expenses, 1.5 billion KRW for establishing basic center facilities, and 1.5 billion KRW for supporting vaccine productization technology information and networking.
The Vaccine Safety Technology Support Center will be built on a 5,000㎡ site within the Hwasun Vaccine Special Zone, with a total floor area of 3,970㎡, consisting of one basement floor and two above-ground floors. Design will begin in January next year, and it is scheduled to open in 2022.
The center will provide technical support and consulting throughout the entire cycle from vaccine research and development to approval for domestic pharmaceutical companies, leading vaccine productization.
In this regard, on the 23rd, Assemblyman Shin held a business meeting with the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety to promise cooperation and legislative support for stable budget securing and operation of the Vaccine Safety Technology Support Center in preparation for the possibility of prolonged COVID-19.
