Won Hee-ryong: "Moon gave a speech as if nothing happened even after the people's tragic deaths"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong criticized President Moon Jae-in, who made a 'peace declaration' in his UN speech the day after the Yeonpyeong Island shelling incident was detected by the military authorities, saying, "I cannot believe that he gave a speech as if nothing had happened even after the tragic death of our citizens."
On the 24th, Governor Won said on Facebook that the South Korean government's response to the Yeonpyeong Island shelling incident was "unacceptable."
He pointed out, "The military authorities reportedly detected the incident on the night of the 22nd. President Moon spoke about the peace declaration in his UN speech the following day," adding, "I cannot believe that he gave a speech as if nothing had happened even after the tragic death of our citizens."
Governor Won also said, "The South Korean government bears significant responsibility for not responding strongly to North Korea's provocations and atrocities," and questioned, "The Kaesong Industrial Complex office bombing was also overlooked. Will it be the same this time?"
He criticized, "Which country shoots unarmed foreigners and even burns their bodies?" and added, "This is a violation of the Geneva Conventions, which prohibit killing unarmed civilians even during war. It is a clear violation of the April 27 Panmunjom Declaration and the September 19 Military Agreement, both concluded under the current administration."
