Gwangju City Provides Disaster Relief Funds for Newlyweds and Pregnant Women
Online, In-Person, and Mail Applications Accepted Until the 25th... Payment Before Chuseok
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 23rd that it will provide disaster relief funds to newlyweds, pregnant women, and others who are struggling due to COVID-19.
This support, implemented as part of the 9th Livelihood Stabilization Measures, was prepared to assist those who have suffered economic and mental damage due to the Level 2 social distancing gathering restrictions.
First, newlyweds will receive 300,000 KRW per household, and pregnant women will receive 100,000 KRW per person as disaster relief funds.
However, the eligibility for pregnant women’s support applications is limited to citizens or their spouses who have been pregnant and residing (registered) in Gwangju Metropolitan City from before the announcement date of the 9th Livelihood Stabilization Measures (September 15) until the application date.
Applicants must submit the pregnant women disaster relief fund application form, resident registration abstract, family relation certificate, pregnancy confirmation, and mother-child health handbook by the 25th. Even if the spouse applies, the payment will be made to the pregnant woman’s bank account.
Newlyweds who held their wedding at a wedding hall located in Gwangju during the Level 2 social distancing period (July 4 to September 20), and where at least one of the groom, bride, or their parents has been registered as a resident in Gwangju from before July 4 of this year until the application date, are eligible for support.
However, newlyweds who held their wedding between August 3 and 22, when social distancing was at Level 1, are excluded from eligibility.
The newlywed disaster relief funds will be paid through the Gwangju Sangsaeng Card account.
The disaster relief funds for pregnant women and newlyweds cannot be received simultaneously. Also, if the birth occurred before the application date, the applicant is eligible for the government’s special childcare support, so the pregnant women disaster relief fund will not be provided.
Applications for disaster relief funds for newlyweds and pregnant women can be made online through the Gwangju Women and Family Foundation website. In-person applications are also possible (for pregnant women at the Women and Family Foundation 3rd floor Kiwoom Support Team, for newlyweds at Gwangju City Hall 1st floor Civil Service Office), as well as postal applications (only for pregnant women at the Women and Family Foundation 3rd floor Kiwoom Support Team).
The application period is until the 25th, and Gwangju City plans to complete payments before Chuseok after verifying the eligibility of applicants.
Meanwhile, the Gwangju Women and Family Foundation operates the integrated care information platform ‘Ai Chingu Center’ and ‘Hospitalized Child Care Service’ to support pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting.
