"I will do my best to ensure the 'Good Landlord' project spreads throughout Seoul"
Seoul Special City District Mayors' Council to Announce Proposal for Activating Good Landlord Project at Seoul City Hall Briefing Room on the Morning of the 23rd
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] The Seoul Metropolitan Council of District Mayors (Chairman: Dobong District Mayor Dong-jin Lee, pictured) announced a proposal for the activation of the Good Landlord Project by the Seoul Metropolitan Council of District Mayors at 9:30 a.m. on the 23rd in the Seoul City Hall briefing room.
This is because the prolonged COVID-19 situation has intensified socio-economic difficulties, and especially tenant self-employed business owners are facing an unfortunate situation where they can no longer endure.
According to a survey by the Korea Federation of Micro Enterprise Associations (August 31 to September 3), 69.9% of all small business owners answered that rent burden is the largest among management costs, indicating a serious level. Accordingly, a petition to the Blue House demanding mandatory rent reductions during business suspension periods has been raised.
In this regard, the government has been promoting a plan to extend the tax credit policy for 50% of the rent reduction amount, which was temporarily implemented until the end of June, until the end of December this year. Seoul City has also decided to extend the Seoul-type Good Landlord Project, which supports building maintenance costs within 30% of the rent reduction amount (up to 5 million KRW).
The main content announced by the Seoul Metropolitan Council of District Mayors on this day is that overcoming COVID-19 should include not only effective quarantine but also minimizing the socio-economic pain of citizens. The council stated that it will do its best to gather all capabilities of the 25 autonomous districts to ensure that the Good Landlord Project promoted by the government and Seoul City spreads throughout Seoul, and if necessary, will actively seek support measures at the district level.
Furthermore, they earnestly appealed to landlords of buildings located in Seoul to extend a hand of social solidarity and cooperation so that self-employed business owners suffering from the prolonged COVID-19 situation can have hope and continue working.
