[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] It has been revealed that one out of three self-service gas stations in the Gyeonggi area managed hazardous materials carelessly, such as falsifying regular inspection results or not appointing hazardous materials safety managers.
The Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced on the 20th that they conducted a full inspection of hazardous materials at 964 self-service gas stations in the province from July to August and found issues at 287 locations, accounting for 30%.
The Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters took actions including filing charges for 9 cases, imposing fines (9 cases), issuing correction orders (740 cases), notifying relevant agencies (2 cases), and on-site corrections (47 cases).
Among the detected cases, Gas Station A was found to have falsified the results of regular inspections conducted at least once a year. Gas Station B was caught expanding and demolishing parts of the buildings within the gas station without permission. Gas Station C was found to have operated the gas station without a hazardous materials safety manager.
The Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters filed charges against these gas stations for violating the Hazardous Materials Safety Management Act and other regulations.
Falsifying inspection results can result in imprisonment for up to one year or a fine of up to 10 million KRW. Violating change permits can lead to fines of up to 15 million KRW, and violating management supervision can result in fines of up to 10 million KRW.
Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters will operate the "Hazardous Materials Sales Handling Facility Permit Acquisition Guidance Period" from the 21st of this month until December 31.
