[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) will expand support for school uniform purchase expenses for new middle and high school students to include foreign students whose registered residence is in Geumcheon-gu, starting from the 21st.
The district established the legal basis to support foreign students with school uniform purchase expenses through a partial amendment of the 'Seoul Special City Geumcheon-gu School Uniform Support Ordinance' in July.
The eligible applicants are new middle and high school students who have resident registration or foreigner registration in Geumcheon-gu during the application period for school uniform purchase support, from March 2 to November 30.
If registered as a resident or foreigner in the district, applicants can apply even if they attend schools outside the district as well as those within Geumcheon-gu.
Eligible applicants can apply online through the district’s website, or new students attending local schools can apply at their enrolled school, while those attending schools outside the district can apply by visiting the community service center in their residential area.
Foreign students can only apply in person and must submit a certificate of foreigner registration as proof.
Meanwhile, with a budget of 870 million KRW allocated this year, the district has supported 2,172 new middle and high school students so far, providing 300,000 KRW per person for school uniform purchase expenses.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “We hope that the expansion of the school uniform purchase support project for new middle and high school students will help reduce educational expenses for local parents,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to realize equal educational welfare in Geumcheon-gu.”
