Songpa-gu to Distribute 1.4 Million Masks as Chuseok Gifts to 20,000 Low-Income Residents!
Over 20,000 Low-Income Individuals Receive 70 Masks Each with Messages of Support
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) will provide a total of 1.4 million masks, 70 masks per person, to low-income groups who face difficulties purchasing masks ahead of the Chuseok holiday.
Although masks have become an essential item in daily life due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation, low-income groups still struggle to purchase masks due to economic conditions.
Recently, social distancing has reduced sharing activities, making help for vulnerable groups urgently needed.
Accordingly, from September 14 to early October, the district plans to distribute masks on a large scale to about 20,000 low-income residents and those living in residential facilities within the area.
The recipients include 554 residents of living facilities and 19,492 basic livelihood security recipients and near-poverty groups.
A total of 1.4 million masks will be provided, 70 per person (20 KF health masks and 50 dental masks).
In particular, the district will create gift boxes containing messages of overcoming COVID-19, including masks and letters of encouragement, to convey warm hearts.
Distribution will be primarily through direct visits to local community service centers for infection prevention, but for those with mobility difficulties, welfare officers will visit the recipients’ homes to deliver the masks.

Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “Recently, domestic and international health experts emphasize the importance of masks as a ‘self vaccine’ and a ‘seatbelt.’ Through this mask distribution, I hope those in difficult situations can have a safe and warm-hearted holiday. We will continue to carefully observe the needs on the ground to protect the health of our residents amid COVID-19.”
