Damyang-gun Wins Grand Prize and Other Awards at the Korea Traditional Liquor Competition 'Korea Our Liquor Awards'

[Damyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yuk-bong] Jeonnam Damyang-gun's traditional liquors, ‘Daedaepo Makgeolli’ and ‘Cheonnyeondamju,’ won the Grand Prize and the Excellence Award respectively at the ‘Korea Traditional Liquor Competition’ hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and organized by the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation.
According to Damyang-gun on the 17th, the Korea Traditional Liquor Competition is a nationally certified liquor competition that selects and awards excellent products annually to improve the quality and competitiveness of traditional liquors. It began in 2010 and marked its 11th edition this year. Judging is conducted in five categories: Takju (Makgeolli), Yakju & Cheongju, Fruit Wine, Distilled Liquor, and Other Liquors (Liqueurs).
This year, 246 products across the five categories were judged, selecting one Presidential Award, four Grand Prizes, five Excellence Awards, and five Merit Awards. Jukhyangdoga of Damyang-gun achieved a remarkable feat by winning the Grand Prize and Excellence Award in two categories.
‘Daedaepo Makgeolli’ from Jukhyangdoga, which won the Grand Prize in the Takju (Makgeolli) category, was highly praised as a premium Takju made using eco-friendly rice and native honey produced locally, manufactured through a low-temperature fermentation method, resulting in a clean and savory taste.
Jukhyangdoga also achieved an unprecedented accomplishment by winning the Excellence Award in the Yakju & Cheongju category with ‘Cheonnyeondamjudo,’ brewed using local ingredients.
