Jang Je-won: "Kim Chong-in Must Implement Economic Democratization...Wavering Will Be Seen as 'Bluffing'"
[Asia Economy, reporter Lee Jieun] Jang Je-won, a member of the People Power Party, pointed out to Kim Chong-in, the Chairman of the Emergency Response Committee, that "economic democratization must be implemented," and warned that if his position continues to waver, it will be seen as mere bluffing.
On September 17, Jang stated on Facebook, "Chairman Kim clearly expressed his support for economic democratization in a media interview, but when the business community reacted strongly, he tried to calm things down by saying it was just a general statement. I find it difficult to understand why he keeps wavering."
He continued, "Since the People Power Party has designated economic democratization as a core value in its platform and policies, the party must not hesitate to confront economic power and pursue both chaebol reform and the establishment of a fair market economy. While the amendments to the Commercial Act and the Fair Trade Act may not achieve everything related to economic democratization, they are important economic reform tasks."
Jang also pointed out, "Large conglomerates grew amid countless privileges during the era of industrialization and have now become unchecked economic powers. It is not a fair market order when the entire group is swayed by the words of a few chaebol family members."
He emphasized, "How can we expect robust and balanced growth if we leave their vested interests untouched? The People Power Party, which pursues a fair market economy, must not leave this unaddressed."
Jang further stated, "If Chairman Kim fails to make his convictions about economic democratization the mainstream position of the party, the People Power Party will once again have to revise its platform and policies. The party must show courage. The slogan of moving away from being a 'party protecting vested interests' or a 'party defending the chaebols' must not remain mere words."

He told Chairman Kim, "I will be watching to see how the People Power Party in 2020 will pursue and achieve chaebol reform and economic democratization, which the Saenuri Party and the Park Geun-hye administration failed to accomplish in 2012. If Chairman Kim continues to waver, he will face criticism for bluffing."
