Hyunjin Kim, Research Professor at Suncheon National University Institute of Humanities, Selected for Korea Research Foundation Support Project
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Dr. Kim Hyun-jin of the Institute of Humanities at Suncheon National University (President Ko Young-jin) has been selected for the 2020 Humanities and Social Sciences Research Professor (Type A) project by the National Research Foundation of Korea and will conduct a study on "The Compilation and Cultural Space Study of Temple Inscription Poems in the Honam Region" over the next five years.
Through this research, Dr. Kim Hyun-jin of the Institute of Humanities at Suncheon National University plans to focus on the five major temples in the Honam region: Seonamsa (仙巖寺) and Songgwangsa (松廣寺) in Suncheon, Hwaeomsa (華嚴寺) in Gurye, Daeheungsa (大興寺) in Haenam, and Baekyangsa (白羊寺) in Jangseong. She will collect, select, and translate works such as classical Chinese poems, epitaphs, and ridge beam inscriptions left by Confucian scholars during the Joseon Dynasty related to the temples and their auxiliary buildings, compile the materials by temple, and further examine the perception of cultural spaces within each temple.
Dr. Kim Hyun-jin’s research is expected to broaden the horizon of studies on Honam region temples, which have left significant marks in Korean Buddhist history from a cultural historical perspective, and contribute to a broader understanding of the interaction between Confucianism and Buddhism as well as the cultural spaces of temples.
