Prosecutors Conduct Search and Seizure at BMW Seoul Office and One Other Location
[Asia Economy Reporter Bae Kyunghwan] The prosecution conducted a search and seizure at the BMW Korea headquarters in connection with suspicions of vehicle fires and defect concealment.
On the 16th, according to the prosecution, the Criminal Division 5 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Lee Dong-eon) executed search warrants at two locations: BMW Korea headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul, and a server storage facility in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

Earlier, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency had referred BMW headquarters, BMW Korea, Chairman Kim Hyo-joon of BMW Korea, and eight corporate officers and employees to the prosecution last November with a recommendation for indictment on charges of violating the Automobile Management Act. Chairman Kim and others are suspected of knowing about defects in the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system used in BMW vehicles but downplaying and concealing them.
