Dongshin University Launches Free Dormitory-Based College Program
Full Support for Freshmen from 17 Departments Aspiring to Work at Innovation City Public Enterprises
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Dongshin University (President Choi Il) will introduce an innovative free residential college (RC) program for next year's freshmen who wish to be employed by public enterprises in the Innovation City.
On the 16th, Dongshin University announced that it plans to provide bold support by introducing a free residential college program for freshmen in 2021 who wish to enter 17 departments related to 16 public enterprises in Gwangju and Jeonnam Innovation City, including Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), to prepare for employment at public enterprises from the first year.
The RC program is a program that helps students grow into global leaders by living on campus 24 hours a day while participating in learning, student self-governance activities, cultural arts, and social service activities. It is an educational model implemented at world-renowned universities such as Harvard University and Yale University.
Students participating in the RC program live free of charge in Dongshin University dormitories and systematically participate in learning programs such as TOEIC, conversation, computer skills, and NCS, as well as community programs including sports activities, volunteering, and student self-governance activities, growing into talents required by public enterprises in Innovation City.
Dongshin University plans to provide academic encouragement funds ranging from 500,000 KRW to a maximum of 1,000,000 KRW per semester to outstanding students among those participating in the RC program.
Dongshin University has been operating employment training school programs such as the DS STAR project and the Daejeong program, achieving remarkable results in nurturing excellent students, and from next year, it has established an ambitious plan to maximize outcomes by linking the RC program as well.
By completing the RC program in the first year to build basic academic skills and qualifications, and honing skills through the Daejeong program and DS STAR project in the second and third years, the university aims to support students in realizing their best dreams in their specialized fields.
The departments introducing the RC program by major public institutions are ▲ Korea Electric Power Corporation: Electrical Engineering, Electric Vehicle Control, New Materials Energy, Renewable Energy, Architecture ▲ KEPCO KPS: Energy Mechanical Facilities ▲ Power Exchange: Energy System Management Engineering ▲ KEPCO KDN: Energy IoT, Converged Information Security ▲ Korea Internet & Security Agency: Computer Engineering ▲ Korea Rural Community Corporation: Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering ▲ Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation: Food and Nutrition ▲ Korea Arts & Culture Education Service: Musical and Practical Music ▲ Korea Creative Content Agency: Digital Content ▲ Korea Radio Promotion Association: Information and Communication Engineering, etc.
Meanwhile, Dongshin University has raised its status as a central university in Gwangju and Jeonnam Innovation City by having 13 students employed as regular workers at public enterprises such as KEPCO last year, and despite the COVID-19 cold wave in the first half of this year, 4 more joined.
In the public official sector, it produced the only local talent level 7 trainee public official in Jeonnam this year, and last year, about 90 people including firefighters, police officers, teachers, and military officers graduated. In the health and medical professional field, 413 people including Korean medicine doctors, nurses, radiologists, and physical therapists graduated.
