Andong-si Begins Full-Scale Harvest of 'Haedam Rice' for Chuseok New Crop... "Harvest Volume Decreased Compared to Previous Years"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Andong City, Gyeongbuk, announced on the 16th that it is actively harvesting the early-maturing rice variety 'Haedam Rice,' planted at the end of April, in the Pungsan, Pungcheon, and Namhu areas.
To ship the new rice early, the harvest is taking place after transplanting from seedbeds to paddies somewhat earlier than usual, from late April to early May, which has brought even greater joy to the farmers, according to Andong City officials. Farmers faced significant difficulties in pest and disease control due to delayed initial establishment caused by low temperatures after transplanting and frequent rainfall during the heading and ripening periods in July and August.
Regarding this year's harvested 'Haedam Rice,' Korea Rice Tech and Andong Nonghyup Grain will purchase the paddy rice, dry and process it, and then ship it to consumers as new rice for the Chuseok holiday. Haedam Rice is one of the 18 highest quality rice varieties selected by the Rural Development Administration, known for its clear grains and excellent taste, making it popular among consumers.
