Coupang Recruits Vice President Kim Gi-ryeong to HR Expert Team
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] Coupang announced on the 15th that it has recruited Kim Giryeong, former CEO of Towers Watson Korea, as the new Vice President to lead its HR Center of Excellence (HR CoE).
Vice President Kim is a veteran in the HR field, having served as the Korean representative of all four major global HR consulting firms: Mercer Korea, Hay Group Korea, Aon Korea, and Towers Watson Korea. During his tenure as CEO of Mercer Korea, he grew the company into one of the top consulting firms in the country. While serving as CEO of Towers Watson Korea, he led organizational integration efforts to achieve psychological integration following the physical merger of Towers Perrin Korea and Watson Wyatt Worldwide Korea.
Before joining Coupang, he worked as the Head of HR Planning at Pulmuone Foods, overseeing various areas including Human Resource Management (HRM), Human Resource Development (HRD), Employee Relations (ER), and Diversity & Inclusion (D&I). Notably, he established the Gender Equality Center, the first of its kind in a large corporation, and received awards from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and the Ministry of Labor for family-friendly and gender equality practices.
He graduated from Korea University with a degree in Education and earned his master's and doctoral degrees in Educational Psychology from the State University of New York.
Vice President Kim plans to focus on establishing talent management strategies necessary for Coupang's aggressive growth.
