Gwangju Seo-gu Council Adopts Resolution Urging Revision of the Entire Local Autonomy Act Amendment Bill
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Seo-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City (Chairman Kim Taeyoung) announced on the 14th that it adopted the “Resolution Urging the Amendment of the Entire Local Autonomy Act for the Independence of Personnel Authority of Local Councils,” which was proposed by Representative Kim Youngsun, at the first plenary session of the 288th extraordinary meeting.
On this day, the Seo-gu Council urged that the “Entire Local Autonomy Act Amendment” submitted by the government to the National Assembly should be revised and approved to grant appointment authority to all local councils without distinction between metropolitan and basic levels.
The Seo-gu Council members stated, “The Local Autonomy Act should actively reflect changes in the local administrative environment and serve as the foundation for realizing true local autonomy and decentralization of power,” adding, “The realization of practical decentralization, where local residents solve local issues by themselves and establish a foundation for autonomous regional growth, is an inevitable principle for mature local autonomy and a national demand.”
