Establishing Vision, Goals, and Execution Plans by Core Areas for New Growth Axis of the Republic of Korea
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The three metropolitan autonomous entities of Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam will hold the '1st Interim Report Meeting on the Joint Research for the Establishment of the Southeast Region Development Plan' at 1:30 PM on the 14th at the 12th floor International Conference Hall of Busan City Hall.
The first report meeting will be attended by Byun Seong-wan, Acting Mayor of Busan, Kim Seok-jin, Deputy Mayor of Ulsan, Ha Byeong-pil, Deputy Governor of Gyeongsangnam-do, along with Song Gyo-uk, Director of Busan Research Institute, Im Jin-hyeok, Director of Ulsan Research Institute, Hong Jae-woo, Director of Gyeongnam Research Institute, affiliated researchers, and related officials, totaling about 40 people.
The three cities and provinces of Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam formed the 'Southeast Region Win-Win Development Council' in March last year based on a consensus that the Southeast region, with a population of 8 million, must become the second national growth axis amid the situation where population and industry are concentrated in the metropolitan area, intensifying the imbalance between central and local governments.
The three cities and provinces launched the 'Joint Research for the Establishment of the Southeast Region Development Plan (Busan Research Institute, Ulsan Development Institute, Gyeongnam Research Institute)' project to strengthen the global competitiveness of the Southeast region and present a regional model leading national balanced development, which is ongoing until March 2021.
Following the kickoff report meeting in May, the interim report meeting on this day will introduce eight fields (administration, industry & economy, transportation & logistics, culture & tourism, disaster & safety, education, welfare & health, food), four major goals, and 30 projects related to the necessity, basic concept, and execution plan of the Southeast Mega City, and conduct in-depth discussions on feasibility and linkage with related projects.
In particular, the four major goals for the execution of the Southeast Mega City are ▲ establishing a 'community foundation for living together' through the construction of metropolitan infrastructure such as railroads and roads ▲ creating an 'economic community foundation for growing together' including the Southeast hydrogen mega-block construction project ▲ establishing a 'cultural community foundation for enjoying together' including joint response plans for the 2030 Busan World Expo in the Southeast region ▲ and organizing an 'administrative community foundation for joint promotion' such as the establishment of a Southeast special union to carry out these goals.
