Preventing 'Math Dropouts' in 1st and 2nd Grade Elementary with AI, Introducing Advanced AI Elective Course
Program to Help Close Math Achievement Gaps Introduced

Basic AI and Math Teaching and Learning Materials for High Schools
to Be Distributed in February Next Year for Second Semester
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Artificial intelligence (AI) will be introduced to help bridge the math proficiency gap among 1st and 2nd grade elementary school students.
The Ministry of Education announced on the 13th that starting from the 14th, all elementary schools nationwide will provide the "Smart! Math Expedition" service, which offers level-based individualized learning at school and enables self-directed learning at home.
Math Expedition is a system that builds big data on students' math learning. When students complete tasks designed based on the curriculum and textbooks, the results are analyzed and predicted using AI technology to recommend learning content suited to the student's level and provide learning advice.
Since March last year, learning content and AI algorithms have been sequentially developed through policy research and pilot school operations. The Ministry of Education expects that by measuring individual students' understanding and predicting future learning achievements, it will be possible to prevent educational gaps that may arise from the early elementary school years.
Additionally, from the second semester of next year, high school students will be able to take AI as an elective subject.
The Ministry of Education officially announced the "Partial Revision of the Elementary and Secondary Education Curriculum and Special School Curriculum," establishing "AI Basics" and "AI Mathematics" as elective subjects for high school career paths. To ensure these two subjects are well established in schools, teaching and learning materials that can be used as supplementary resources will be distributed in February next year, and job training for key teachers in provinces and cities will also be conducted.
