USFK Commander: "North Korea Issues Shoot-to-Kill Order for Unauthorized Entry at North Korea-China Border"
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Robert Abrams, Commander of the ROK-US Combined Forces Command and Commander of United States Forces Korea, revealed that North Korea deployed special forces along the North Korea-China border and issued orders to shoot to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
According to foreign media on the 10th (local time), Commander Abrams stated during a virtual meeting hosted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington that "North Korea has established a new 1 to 2 km 'buffer zone' along the border with China."
He said, "North Korean Special Operations Forces (SOF) have been deployed in this area, and a 'shoot-to-kill order' has been issued against those who cross the border illegally."

Commander Abrams added that as demand for smuggled goods increased due to border closures caused by COVID-19, North Korean authorities intervened, emphasizing that "the current North Korean regime is focused on reducing the risk of COVID-19."
