View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] Coupang announced on the 11th that it will invest 100 billion KRW in Gimcheon-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do to build an advanced logistics center to expand the Rocket Living Zone.
Coupang signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for investment attraction to establish a large-scale logistics center with Gyeongsangbuk-do and Gimcheon-si at Gimcheon City Hall on the same day. The signing ceremony was attended by key figures including Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, Kim Choong-seop, Mayor of Gimcheon-si, Song Eon-seok, member of the People Power Party, and Park Dae-jun, Head of Coupang's New Business Division.
Coupang will invest 100 billion KRW over two years starting next year to build an advanced logistics center covering an area equivalent to 12 soccer fields in the Gimcheon 1st General Industrial Complex (Phase 3).
The Coupang Gimcheon Advanced Logistics Center will support the Daegu and Daejeon logistics centers while serving as a logistics hub for the northwestern region of Gyeongbuk. It plans to introduce Coupang’s self-developed logistics software and artificial intelligence (AI)-based product management and worker route optimization systems, eco-friendly packaging facilities, and advanced logistics equipment.

Coupang expects up to 1,000 new jobs, including logistics center staff and delivery personnel. A Coupang official stated, “We plan to prioritize hiring local residents, focusing on women and middle-aged and older adults without restrictions on gender or age, significantly contributing to resolving job blind spots.” The official also added, “Coupang’s local employment wage expenditure due to the establishment of this large-scale logistics center is estimated to reach up to 27 billion KRW.”
