[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City will operate a 'West Sea Peace Special Period' for three weeks from the 14th of this month to the 4th of next month to mark the 13th anniversary of the October 4th Inter-Korean Joint Declaration, and will promote various events.
The West Sea Peace Special Period was first operated last year by Incheon City to raise awareness of inter-Korean cooperation and the establishment of peace on the Korean Peninsula, and to fulfill its role as a local government in the border area.
Due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the city plans to minimize the scale of this year's events while strictly adhering to government quarantine guidelines and promoting 17 major projects in four areas to spread the atmosphere of peace.
First, Incheon City Hall and the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority will raise the Korean Peninsula flag depicting the West Sea Five Islands at each government building during the West Sea Peace Special Period.
Earlier, the June 15th Joint Declaration Implementation South Korea Committee Incheon Headquarters requested the raising of the Korean Peninsula flag last month, and the city decided to accept this to widely inform citizens of the meaning of the October 4th Inter-Korean Joint Declaration and to fulfill Incheon's role as a central city for peace and unification on the Korean Peninsula.
On the 26th, a '13th Anniversary Ceremony of the October 4th Inter-Korean Joint Declaration' will be held at the central hall of Incheon City Hall, jointly hosted by Incheon City, the 13th Anniversary Promotion Committee of the October 4th Inter-Korean Joint Declaration, and the Incheon Regional Council of the National Unification Advisory Council.
On the 27th, a 'public forum' titled 'Incheon Citizens Speak of Peace' will be held at Songdo Convensia, with 96 citizen participants of different ideologies and tendencies including progressive, moderate, and conservative.
Hosted by the 13th Anniversary Promotion Committee of the October 4th Inter-Korean Joint Declaration, the 'Peace Film Festival' held at 'Yeonghwa Gonggan Juan' in Michuhol-gu will screen North Korean films to spread citizens' awareness of peace.
On the 17th, 'A Hundred Years of Memory' screened at the Pyeongchang International Film Festival, on the 22nd 'Children's School,' and on the 6th of next month 'The Fountain of Love' will be screened respectively, with a total of 90 participants allowed, 30 per screening.
During the event period, award-winning works from the West Sea Peace Content Contest, calligraphy contest winners praying for the joint hosting of the 2032 Seoul-Pyongyang Olympics, and VR/photos of Goryeo heritage remaining in Kaesong will be exhibited in the central hall of City Hall.
