On this day, Mayor Heo Seong-gon, City Council Chairman Song Yoo-in, Director of the International Safe Community Support Center Jo Jun-pil, and International Safe Community Certification Review Committee member Bae Jeong-i attended.
Originally, the city planned to hold an event inviting citizens to officially declare and celebrate the international safety city certification, but due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, it was judged difficult to hold the event within the year, so it was downsized to a signing ceremony.
For the past four years, the city has devoted itself to promoting safety city projects as part of the 7th local government administration’s pledge to “Make Gimhae a Safe City.” Earlier, on February 10, it received certification from the International Safe Community Certification Center, and by signing the certification agreement, it was officially recognized as the 21st international safe city in Korea (the 2nd in the province).
Meanwhile, along with signing the international safe city certification agreement on this day, the city also signed the “Gimhae City International Safe City Project Business Promotion Agreement” with 23 related organizations and groups to continuously carry out safety enhancement projects after certification. A total of 24 institutions and organizations, including the city, participated in this agreement, which was conducted in writing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The areas of cooperation include ▲consultation and information sharing on overall safety enhancement projects for the international safe city ▲discovery and improvement of safety enhancement projects to reduce injury and death rates by sector ▲development and operation of programs and content for project execution ▲establishment of a collaborative system such as joint promotion of projects targeting local residents, totaling four areas.

Mayor Heo Seong-gon said, “Thanks to the safety-related organizations and groups that have devoted themselves to protecting citizens’ lives and property by prioritizing citizens’ safety over the past four years, we have achieved the great success of international safe city certification,” and added, “For the continuous execution of projects according to international safe city standards, the role of the agreement institutions is more important than ever,” asking for their cooperation.
