On the 10th, a post titled "I am the daughter of a man in his 50s who suffered a tragic accident due to drunk driving and wrong-way driving in Eulwangri around 1 a.m. on September 9" was posted on the Blue House National Petition Board. As of 3:30 p.m. that day, the petition had received 27,632 signatures.
The petitioner, who identified herself as the daughter of A (54), a victim of a drunk driving accident, said, "Early that morning, my father went out to deliver chicken as usual," and added, "That day, there were many orders from the evening, so he didn't even have dinner and said it was his last delivery before leaving."
She continued, "After a long time had passed since he went out for delivery and he did not return, my mother closed the store and went out to look for him. An ambulance passed by, and near the store about 2 km away, she found our motorcycle left alone," adding, "She asked the paramedics only one question: 'Is he conscious?' When the paramedics did not answer, my mother's world collapsed."
She went on, "They contacted me, who lives separately. I was crying like crazy, but they told me I had to go to the police station to give a statement about the death," and said, "The police only secured the statements they wanted, and I couldn't get any of my questions answered. I felt a bit resentful, wondering, 'Our father died, but are the police not on our side?'"
She added, "With the help of the police, various procedures were carried out and the funeral was held, but I found witness accounts online from people who saw the perpetrators?or rather, the murderers," and claimed, "The body was lying on the center line, but the perpetrator, intoxicated, sought a lawyer before calling 119 (emergency services)."
The petitioner said, "My father was not delivering because of hardship caused by COVID-19, but because it was his own business and he felt responsible. He believed that if he hired delivery part-timers, they wouldn't be as courteous, so he insisted on delivering himself," and added, "He never once in his life failed to work hard. Please, I beg you, do not let the murderer exploit the law and slip away like a slippery fish."
Finally, she pleaded, "Please impose the maximum sentence. No matter how much of a mistake it was, a person died, the youngest of seven siblings died, and our family was destroyed in an instant."
According to multiple media outlets, at around 12:55 a.m. on the 9th, a woman in her 30s was driving in a heavily intoxicated state on a road in Eulwang-dong, Jung-gu, Incheon, when she crossed the center line and collided with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.
As a result of the accident, A, who was riding the chicken delivery motorcycle, was seriously injured and taken to the hospital but ultimately passed away.
At the time, the driver's, B (33), blood alcohol concentration was found to be above 0.1%, the level for license cancellation.
