[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Park Young-soo, Secretary General of the National Election Commission, stated on the 10th that he will request explanations from ruling and opposition party lawmakers regarding the controversy over omitted property declarations.
Secretary General Park appeared at the plenary meeting of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee that morning and responded to related inquiries from Park Wan-su, a member of the People Power Party, saying, "We plan to request explanations from those involved after reviewing the content and identifying any problematic parts." He also said, "Some declarations have been made."
Regarding the fact that the National Election Commission's accusation against Jo Su-jin, a member of the People Power Party, was first revealed through ruling party lawmakers, he replied, "We were not aware of it." Secretary General Park explained, "It seems that the ruling party lawmakers requested fact-checking, and we responded that such a fact existed."

According to the Public Official Election Act, if a candidate for the National Assembly falsely announces property or other information to win election, they may face imprisonment for up to five years or a fine of up to 30 million won. If a sentence of a fine of 1 million won or more is confirmed for violating the Public Official Election Act, the election will be invalidated.
