Another Premium Over 1 Million Won... "Selling Z Fold2 Thom Browne Edition" Floods Danggeun Market
[Asia Economy Reporter Joeslgina] “Willing to trade directly for 5 million won. Price negotiable.” “Transaction completed.”
The ‘Galaxy Z Fold2 Thom Browne Edition,’ launched by Samsung Electronics in collaboration with the fashion brand Thom Browne, has once again confirmed its hot popularity by being traded on the secondhand market with a premium of over 1 million won.
According to the secondhand direct transaction app Danggeun Market on the 10th, right after Samsung Electronics announced the lottery results for the limited sale of the Galaxy Z Fold2 Thom Browne Edition the day before, posts appeared one after another on Danggeun Market certifying the winning screen and expressing a desire for direct transactions around 5 million won. Considering that the retail price of this edition is 3.96 million won, a premium of about 1 million won was added.
In the areas of Jongno, Seongbuk, and Seongdong districts in Seoul, some transactions were completed at the highest price of around 5 million won within a single day. Other posts offering prices between 4.5 million and 5 million won are either marked as completed or reserved. In the Seodaemun and Gangbuk districts of Seoul, 10 posts were also uploaded, with some transactions confirmed. The direct transaction prices ranged from 4.5 million to 5.3 million won.
Ten posts from the Yeongdeungpo, Gangseo, and Dongjak districts of Seoul showed similar average price ranges. Posts indicating a willingness to receive price proposals from interested buyers were also noticeable. In the Cheongna area of Incheon, multiple transactions were completed at around 4.3 million won. In the Gangnam and Seocho districts of Seoul and the Busan area, the offered prices soared to between 5.5 million and 6 million won. In some regions, posts seeking winners appeared in the ‘Buying’ category. The situation is similar in other secondhand trading communities.
This Thom Browne Edition is limited to 5,000 units worldwide. It includes the Galaxy Z Fold2, the smartwatch ‘Galaxy Watch3,’ and wireless earphones ‘Galaxy Buds Live.’ The domestic allocation is estimated to be less than 1,000 units, and more than 230,000 people participated in the lottery sale held on the 7th and 8th.
Considering the popularity that caused the online mall to crash during the launch of the Galaxy Z Flip Edition, the first collaboration with Thom Browne in February, Samsung Electronics introduced an online lottery system this time. Even then, listings with premiums of several million won flooded platforms like Danggeun Market, leading to criticism that the Thom Browne Edition had become prey for resellers aiming for limited edition premiums.
