Pianist Baek Geon-woo Releases New Schumann Album and Nationwide Tour Starting October
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] Pianist Baek Geon-woo is embarking on a nationwide tour recital alongside the release of his new Robert Schumann album.
Baek Geon-woo is known as the "Seeker on the Keyboard" because he intensely explores the inner world of a single composer. He focused on Messiaen in 2008, Liszt in 2011, Schubert in 2013, Scriabin and Rachmaninoff in 2015, Beethoven in 2017, Chopin last year, and this year he chose Schumann, a representative composer of the Romantic era, dedicating himself to his music. Baek Geon-woo's new album will be released on the 17th through Deutsche Grammophon (DG).
Starting in October, Baek Geon-woo will embark on a nationwide tour over two months to commemorate the new album release. The first performance is scheduled for October 9 at Lotte Concert Hall.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the seating will be arranged with one seat left empty between attendees. Pre-opening ticket sales for Interpark TOPING members will begin at 10 a.m. on the 10th, and general tickets will be available from 2 p.m. through Interpark and Lotte Concert Hall.
Baek Geon-woo plans to start with Schumann's first work, the "Abegg Variations," followed by "Three Fantasiest?cke," "Arabesque," "Dawn Song," five pieces from the "Bunte Bl?tter," "Kinderszenen," and will conclude with Schumann's last composition from 1854, the "Ghost Variations."
Schumann was a leading composer of Romantic music who respected individual freedom and emotion. He passionately loved the piano and left many pieces for it. Schumann combined the literary talent inherited from his publisher father and his innate imagination into poetic fantasies and melodies filled with rich dreams. His freely expressed musical world breaks away from fixed musical forms, focusing on deep passion and the innate emotions of humanity.

Following the Lotte Concert Hall performance, Baek Geon-woo will visit Seoul Gangdong Arts Center (October 10), Gyeonggi Arts Center (October 15), Daegu (October 16), Bucheon (October 17), Gwangju (October 20), Changwon (October 22), Ulsan (October 23), and Anseong (October 30), concluding the nationwide tour with performances in Incheon (November 13) and Tongyeong (November 15).
