Gwangju City Designates Buk-gu as a Priority Quarantine Management Area

On the afternoon of the 7th, Gwangju Mayor Lee Yong-seop stated in a COVID-19 online briefing, "We will designate quarantine-focused management areas and facilities to concentrate quarantine capabilities such as personnel and budget."
Mayor Lee explained, "Among the 439 cumulative confirmed cases in the Gwangju area, excluding 47 imported cases and 4 cases from other cities and provinces, there are 388 local infections. Of these, 212 are residents of Buk-gu, accounting for 29.8% of the total, but confirmed cases make up as much as 54.6%."
He added, "In particular, the cluster infections occurred at Seongnim Baptist Church (56 cases), Gwangju Sarang Church (41 cases), Ilgok Central Church (30 cases), Donggwangju Table Tennis Club (15 cases), and Badminton Club (14 cases), all located in Buk-gu. Among the 22 confirmed cases who participated in the August 15 Seoul downtown rally, 10 were also confirmed to be residents of Buk-gu."
He continued, "Recently, local infections have been continuously spreading around Malbau Market in Buk-gu," and said, "We will enhance the effectiveness of quarantine through selection and concentration, focusing quarantine capabilities such as personnel and budget on Buk-gu. The recently recruited Gwangju Emergency Medical Support Team will also be deployed to Buk-gu first, and additional quarantine budgets will be provided immediately."
The mayor emphasized, "Until now, management has focused on high-risk and medium-risk facilities designated by the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, but going forward, we will scientifically and empirically analyze confirmed case data and statistics to designate and intensively manage key facilities."

He stated, "Key management facilities will be designated through the Gwangju City Public-Private Joint Countermeasures Committee meeting on the 9th by analyzing past experiences and statistics, and quarantine capabilities will be intensively deployed."
