[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) is hosting the "Edutech Startup Competition" as part of the Edutech Startup Innovation Project under the Vocational Education Special Zone.
Last year, the district was designated as a vocational education special zone by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups for the first time nationwide, investing 38 billion KRW by 2022 to implement 19 detailed specialized projects under three main strategies: ▲activating vocational education focused on lifelong employment potential ▲quantitative and qualitative expansion of job linkage ▲expanding job convergence networks.
This competition was prepared in collaboration with Soongsil University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation and the Seoul Human Resources Development Committee of the Seoul Chamber of Commerce and Industry to support startup founders’ capabilities, evaluate the technological and business feasibility of items, and provide funding for startups in the Edutech industry, which is creating new trends in education in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
Eligible participants are prospective entrepreneurs or startups within five years of establishment who have startup items in the Edutech industry. Additional points will be given to Dongjak-gu residents and university (graduate) students located in the region.
Applications can be submitted by downloading the application form, business plan, and other supporting documents from the Soongsil University Startup Support Group website by the 16th and sending them via email to the person in charge at selinne@ssu.ac.kr.
On the 25th, a judging panel of about five external experts will evaluate based on criteria including ▲motivation, purpose, and commercialization strategy of the startup item ▲market analysis and competitiveness securing plans ▲funding requirements and procurement plans ▲market entry and performance creation strategies.
The top three selected individuals (teams) will be awarded certificates including the Dongjak-gu Mayor’s Award and a total of 10 million KRW in commercialization support funds at Soongsil University on October 7. The award ceremony will be conducted online depending on the COVID-19 local infection spread situation.

Yoon Soyeon, Head of the Job Policy Division, said, “Through this competition, we hope to strengthen startup capabilities in the future Edutech field after COVID-19 and establish a model for activating industry-academia cooperation linked to employment and entrepreneurship. We look forward to the interest and participation of many entrepreneurs.”
